Continuing with Lessons we've learned: 'nappies' are not rest time. Nappies are diapers.
So we've stayed busy the last day or two. Tuesday we moved out of our hotel and into a hostel right next to the beach in Newcastle, it was a good move. We already feel like part of the backpacker family. We even had to go print resumes at another hostel nearby and realized our people are way cooler and more fun.
Our first night here we went to a bingo night for all the backpackers at a local restaurant. Not to brag but i pulled in one of the 4 wins (I won a free hour of internet). Turns out even my luck is the opposite on the other side of the world. We had a free dinner provided by the restaurant.
On that note, there are several meals a week that local restaurants provide for backpackers. So when we met a backpacker who said a christian group provided free lunches, we didn't question it. Well we cruise up to this "christian group" looking for free lunch and we realize that its a church. No big deal except for the line of homeless people outside waiting on their free lunch at the soup kitchen! Totally freaked out, we turn around and catch the next bus we can in the other direction. Word to the wise, beware of who you take your advise from.
Yesterday we walked around town for the day and saw the beautiful harbor and parks nearby and watched some surfing for the morning. In the afternoon we took a ferry across the harbor to another beach which was less rough but completely deserted. We didn't know if it was safe to swim so we sent Caleb and sherb up to ask the lifeguard. Well about 30 minutes later we finally got Caleb back from talking to Katie the lifeguard who is now in love with him we're pretty sure. Beach was fun, my first time swimming in the pacific. We got in some surfing and bodyboarding.
Finally we cooked spaghetti in the hostel last night. I want to congradulate Miley Cirus for sucessfully making it alll the way around the world. Our Australian hosts were blaring party in the USA all night in the hostel, which turned our spaghetti cooking into a dance party.
So far today we've been walking around dropping off resumes and hunting for jobs. We''re hoping our accents give us an advantage.
Peace for now.
