Taylor and I said bye to David and Sherb yesterday as we left Newcastle for the weekend with our buddy Daniel Carmen heading to his house on Smith's Lake. On Saturday, David and Sherb are headed up to a farm near Byron Bay where they'll be working for a while.
To set the scene here at smith's lake, we are looking off Dan's front porch at the lake and across the lake there is a strip of sand separating the lake from the ocean. We can take a boat about 200 yards to the sand strip and walk across to surf. It's pretty sick all around. Caleb and Brian got here tonight to join in the fun.
Taylor, me and Caleb all had the same reaction when we walked in the house..."wait you mean I get to sleep in a real bed?" It's been a while since we've stayed in a furnished home.
When we got here last night, we surfed for a while at boomerang beach. By 'we surfed' I mean we all started paddling out into some HUGE waves and when I started to get pushed into the rocks on my way out, I realized if I wanted to live to see today it would probably be better for me to wait for another time. So Taylor and I watched from the beach.
After dinner we put the car headlights on the local skatepark and switched surfboards for skateboards. This morning we woke up for a surf session and this time I made the paddle out but wondered what the heck I was doing in waves that had to be 4-5 feet overhead. The other guys tore it up though.
The weekend has been a blast so far. Surf, skate, eat, sleep, its hard to beat.
This is last night at boomerang beach.
