Safe from the Tsunami

I woke up sunday morning to Trenton waking everyone up saying we only had 30 mintues until a tsunami was going to hit the east coast of Australia. We had to get to the beach! So at about 9:30am we got everyone in cars and headed to the nearest beach in hopes of catching the tsunami. We waited for about and hour or so but the tsunami never came. I heard that it hit Newcaslte but it wasn't much more than a big boat wake. Anyway we're safe from the tsunami.

It was a weekend full of 'firsts.' I had my first experience of driving a car on the left side of the road. We laughed at ourselves beacuse we all have then tendancy to hug the left shoulder. The passengers on the left side are always shouting warnings when the left side of the car is about to graze a trash can or other objects on the side of the road. We haven't hit anything though. Driving also comes with reading speed in km/hr and sitting on the right side of the car.

Another first was trying vegemite. Vegemite is an Australian staple. It's a spread the consistency of peanut butter but the taste can't compare to anything. It's basically a salt spread. It's not bad if you barely spread it on, but too much can be fatal.

We also had some firsts for our Australian friends. Trenton inroduced them to sweet tea. They loved it and Dan even made Trenton show him how to make it. Yesterday he was making it for his family to try.

We had a great time at Smith's lake and now Caleb, Taylor and I are planning our next move.
We'll keep you informed.

I am not positive but the way I understand it is...when you hear that there is tsunami coming you are supposed to alert everyone and head AWAY from the beach so that you don't get hit by the anticipated devastation!!!

Gusee things are backwards 'Down Under'...
