Now that I’ve probably lost any followers I once had, I'm sorry for the gradual lack of blog updates. Going from having all the free time I could ever want to working 2 jobs has taken a toll on my Internet time.
Anyway updates from the last week or 2 in the life of Ned and Caleb. Since my last update we went down to Byron Bay for Bluesfest. We both had Thursday off so we headed down to see Matt Costa, The Avett Brothers and Jack Johnson among a bunch of other bands. We had two choices, a $140 ticket or wait until the sun went down a little, force our bodies under a fence that neither of us should have fit under, tramp through wooded marsh, and hurl ourselves over a small river. Look, we’re on a budget. It was an awesome show and we enjoyed feeling a little bit like we were back in the USA for a night.
We’ve also been star struck a few times in the last week. Mick Fanning, last years surfing world champion lives right here in Coolangatta so we have had 2 or 3 surf sessions with him paddling right beside us. In other news I went into work one day and Donavon Frankenreiter had just walked out after eating breakfast at RAW Energy. He had played at Bluesfest the night before and was here to catch some waves.
Apparently everyone in the country had a 4 day weekend for Easter except for us. People piled into the Gold Coast and I think most of them came to eat at RAW Energy because I bet I made 400 sandwiches on Sunday and Monday. Working Good Friday AND Easter was not cool.
The last few days our friends Dan Carman and Brian Nobles were here on a road trip from Newcastle. We went with them to meet David and Sherb for the afternoon at a beach about 30 min south of us. Time is flying but it had been about a month since we had seen them. It was great to hang out with everyone and catch up with old friends.
Today we played soccer with a bunch of guys from the hostel. There were people from Portugal, Denmark, France, Italy, Brazil and other countries I can’t remember. It was a neat thing to get together and play a game that everyone knows despite the language barriers and cultural differences. It was also funny to see how out-of-shape everyone was.
We’re working a lot but having fun. We try to get in the water as much as possible on our time off. Today I just had to step back and take in this beautiful place that we live in.
