The Pro Surfers Love me

...or the waves around here, but there’s no way to tell which really. To explain…thursday I’m finishing up the day at work, we had just closed the kitchen and the other two guys in the kitchen with me started freaking out. I didn’t really know what was happening so when I asked all they could say was look out front. So I peak around the wall to see Kelly Slater standing at the register ordering. Then the boss man walks back and says I think we’ll be staying open a little bit longer, when 9 time world champion wants a sandwich, he gets one. So I can now say that I’ve served Kelly Slater! It’s a shame all I could muster to say was “enjoy it.”

That was Thursday, today is Saturday. This morning after work I went out to D-bah to surf for a few hours. As I paddle out I notice a guy sitting in the water right beside me looks familiar. As I listen to his conversation with the billabong guys sitting around him, I realize it’s Andy Irons! It was funny listening to their conversation about his brother Bruce who was in the process of an east coast tour of the USA and how he was pissed because he wasn’t getting any good waves. Their conversation went on to talk about Tahiti, Puerto Rico, Bali and a bunch of other sick locations around the world where they were chasing swells in the next few weeks. Ah, the life of a pro surfer. So I saw him in the water this morning and then later this afternoon I was in a billabong surf shop and good ole Andy Irons walks in right behind me. He followed me around town!

Some people (Heath) go to New York and do extensive research on what restaurants are the best celebrity sightseeing spots; I just move to the best waves in the world and they come to me. It’s tough but somebody has to do it.

In other news, last Sunday night Caleb and I took 3 guys from the hostel to church. It was a Brazilian themed night because there are a lot of Brazilians in the church. Our friend Pedro who went with us is from Portugal. He speaks fine English but is definitely more comfortable with Portuguese. To those who don’t know (I didn’t until recently) Brazilians speak Portuguese. So during the service they actually sang some songs and said part of the message in Portuguese! Neither Caleb or I made the connection that they would be saying stuff in Portuguese, but God definitely knew exactly what he was doing. As soon as they started saying stuff in Portuguese, Pedro looked at me and with a surprised look on his face. To me, that surprised look on Pedro’s face was God looking at me saying you do your part and I’ll take care of the rest. Multiple time this week Pedro, Cedric and Chris have all asked Caleb and I if we are going back on Sunday!

Last Friday we took a day trip down to Byron Bay. We went with 4 friends and had a great day. The beaches are gorgeous and the town is the epitome of a little hippy surfer town, it is awesome. I will definitely be heading back there soon. We finished the day with some cliff jumping at an old quary, Caleb’s got some video he should be putting up soon.

I also saw the first Red Bull car handing out free Red Bull’s this week! SO glad to know they are in Australia. Anyone who really knows me knows how much I like Red Bull. The small shot they handed us goes for $8.80 in a gas station here…prices are ridiculous.

Wow Ned, you are a regular surf celebrity magnate!!!
The next time you see Kelly ask him if he remembers the older guy that cut him off while surfing Pea Island at Cape Hatteras circa 1998...or ask Andy if he remembers Chris and I with he and Bruce and the boys in Texas at the 1995 US Surfing Championships? I know they will all know me of course.
Yall keep doing your part and I'm sure God will do His part! Yall are wonderful and don't be shy with the Blogging...milton
