Highlights of the week

Wednesday morning Caleb and I woke up at 5:30 (yes, Ned Reynolds woke up at 5:30am) and went surfing with some guys from church. I haven’t bought a board yet so it was so great to borrow a board that actually fit me! I caught my first real Australian waves and it was a much needed confidence booster.

Thursday night we were invited to go eat at our friend Pricilla and Rob’s apartment. Rob is Australian and Pricilla is Brazilian so at dinner it was Caleb and I with 6 of their Brazilian friends. When we got there, Pricilla was reading the bible to some o of their friends and telling about how they were robbed on Tuesday night while they were sleeping. She was so joyful in talking about how she had been learning the difference in giving and taking. She was totally at peace with it even though they took her phone and computer and camera. She just saw it as God testing her and it was really cool to see the way they used it to tell others about God’s impact on their lives.

Anyway after going to dinner at 7:45, we didn’t leave until 1am! By the time we left, both of us were literally struggling to keep our eyes open. Dinner was awesome and she fed us tacos until we couldn’t eat anymore.

Our time so far in Australia has been one culturally diverse experience. It has been really cool to meet people from all over the world. As Americans we are definitely a minority. Over and over people tell us that we sound like we are straight out of the movies. Everyone watches American tv and movies.

And the grand finale of the week…on Thursday afternoon we BOUGHT A CAR! We’ve been talking about it from day one and after much debate and waiting on jobs, we did it. Our hope is that it will help us to find jobs and give us a broader range of opportunities. It’s amazing how much more is accessible with your own transportation!

Here she is…the night shot is all I have now, I'll try to get a better one up later.

So from now on we’ll be cruising around in this, there’s no way people can turn us down now! I think I’m going to start researching how to ship her back to the USA.

Some shots from the week:

It was nice with 3 people we had our own hostel room.

Caleb found some familiar plates.
The front entrance for the house we went to last sunday was a door that came up through the floor. It might be added to the things I must have in my house one day.

A typical night around the hostel.
