Life on Wheels

As promised, here is our new ride in the daylight. Yep, Caleb and I are the proud new owners of this beautiful 1988 Ford Falcon. You can see the 2 tires on top, it was in desperate need so we picked them up at the local wrecker for $30 each and got them put on today. Now she's just like new.
I realized the other day that this is not only the first car we have paid for on our own, but it's also the first home either of us have owned. That's right, this has been home for the last 2 nights. Too bad it doesn't quite fit into the 'first time home owners' in the US that get an $8,000 check. I start work at the hostel on thursday for free accommodation but until then, we're making this home base.

One thing that is so nice about living out of a car is getting to see the sunrise and sunset that we miss so often sitting in houses. Here are some shots of the last few nights that were gorgeous.
We almost have the car all set up for life on the road. We picked up a cooler (or 'eski' as they call them here), a portable stove, some pots, pans and silverware and we are still figuring out the best/cheapest way to make the bed comfortable but we are pretty self sufficient. Australia is great about having grills and dispensers of boiling water for public use so we have several options for cooking dinner every night. We've already started to blend in to the 'regulars' on the grills every night. You would be surprised how many foreigners come backpack through Australia living out of cars or vans.

Other news: Caleb started work at a coffee shop this morning! He worked for two hours this morning and they said he should be on the schedule by thursday! Turns out they actually will hire Americans here. I am still on the lookout.

From the library's free wireless that you have to ask for every time you use it,
Ned
