Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road

The Newcastle crew was headed to Melbourne this weekend so when I realized my work schedule would allow me to go, I decided to go surprise Cameron and meet them in Melbourne. Caitlin and Lindsey did a great job of holding the secret and I think Cameron was thoroughly surprised when I walked out the door to meet them Friday night.

The 8 of us rented 2 cars and spent Saturday and Sunday driving the great ocean road. The weather was not ideal but we had a great time and saw some gorgeous sights. The Twelve Apostles was one of the highlights.

We came across a herd (or flock?) of parrots on the side of the road that landed all over us when we fed them. Here is Patrick and Laura taking control of the birds.

One of the many incredible views along the great ocean road.

Sunday we got back to Melbourne with enough time to head over to the Crown Casino for the night. Patrick and I had discovered it on Friday before the girls got in town and we had to take them back. Towards the end of the night a lucky roll of the roulette table turned my $5 into $90 and I walked away a happy man. The bad part is that it may have struck a small gambling addiction.

Monday we all wanted to see Brighton beach so we woke up early to drive out there and then explored Melbourne before we left for our perspective airports.

Caleb and I are rounding up our last week at the Cooly YHA. Our good friend Jamie Southwick gets here on Sunday and we’ll travel with him for a week and then start to make our way north.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been here for 4 months. The first month of figuring everything out seemed to drag on forever but since then time has flown bye. Coolangatta has been great, but I think we are both itching to start traveling again and explore new ground.
