At the Sunshine Coast Hyatt, we continued to live life in style. Our days were filled with more adventures of cliff jumping and rope swings and an afternoon trip to Noosa. Our evenings were spent in the Hyatt Spa. We took it upon ourselves to make sure all of their amenities were being used. Yes this includes the common sauna, outdoor hot tub, indoor hot tub and plunge pool (a small pool of freezing cold water to close up your pores after a sauna session), but we also made sure to wear robes and disposable sandals, use the free shaving cream and razors, drink the tea and really just immerse ourselves in the resort spa lifestyle. Sure we may have gotten a few laughs walking around the resort in our spa robes, but we were the ones in total comfort.
As you can imagine, we left the Sunshine Coast headed south for one more night at the Gold Coast Hyatt feeling pretty relaxed. That lasted until we pulled into Brisbane. Mid rush hour traffic, we had to pull over due to Portugal over heating and pouring smoke out from under the hood. To make a long story short, we refilled the radiator coolant, then it wouldn’t start because the battery was dead, it took us 3 hours to get someone to pull over and jump us, then 10 more minutes down the highway Portugal over heated again. We pulled over into an emergency lane on the highway. Luckily it had an emergency phone there for us to use. The lady on the other end knew exactly where we were and sent a ‘free tow to safety.’ 45 minutes later a tow truck arrived to pull us off of the highway and to a gas station with a mechanic next door. This was Friday night. Thanks to a holiday weekend, the mechanic is closed until Tuesday. In an effort to fix the car ourselves, we did figure out the problem is a busted radiator hose, but our tool kit of a swiss army knife and duct tape wasn’t quite up to the challenge.
After considering our limited options, we decided we had to make our last night at the Gold Coast Hyatt and we would come back for the car on Tuesday. So at 9:00pm we threw a few clothes in bookbags left most of what we own with the car and walked to the nearest bus stop in an effort to find our way south to the Sanctuary Cove Hyatt. 4 busses, 2 trains, 1 taxi and 3.5 hours later, we arrived at our last night of luxury.
Saturday our friend Mark was in the area so we caught a ride with him back to our old home, the Cooly YHA. It is a great thing to have a place that feels like home. Last night we spent most of the night watching the USA vs England game and this morning we sent Jamie off at the airport. Caleb and I are here until tomorrow when we’ll find our way back to Portugal and get her fixed up and ready for the road again.
Story of the day:
Today in the hostel I overheard a conversation of an old lady from Scotland talking to a girl from Texas telling about how it was unethical to own guns. She said she could never visit America because of the danger of people owning guns. At one point in the conversation she asked: “If I traveled there for a week or two would I have to get my hands on a gun to protect myself?” I’m thinking some people take our movies way to seriously.
